There is simply no way to sugarcoat this.  If the Trump Administration’s FY 2018 budget, released yesterday, were to become law our children’s health and well being would pay a steep price.

There’s an old saying, “Everything’s Big in Texas.” That’s literally true when it comes to energy production, consumption, and pollution. Texas is the number one energy producing state in the country and generates almost twice as much electricity as its nearest competitor.  Texas is the biggest consumer of energy and the biggest user of coal. All of this makes Texas the biggest polluter, imperiling our children. The good news is that a new survey by the Texas Clean Energy Coalition finds that 85% of all Texans and 78% of Republicans favor clean energy to generate electricity. And in another show of support, almost 50,000 Texas pro-life Christians have signed the Pro Life Clean Energy Campaign’s petition calling for 100% clean energy by 2030.

In our current political climate three House Republicans this week have offered courageous leadership of a kind not seen recently.  First, they have offered something rare, bipartisanship.  But second, this bipartisan leadership is focused on something rarer still in the halls of the House – addressing climate change.

We are thankful to Pennsylvania’s Governor Wolf for vetoing HB 1327, the fiscal code legislation.  As pro-life Christians, we are deeply concerned for the impacts HB 1327 would have on our children’s health. We have urged the General Assembly to allow this toxic version to fade away and pass a clean fiscal code without amendments.

Yesterday Pennsylvania’s Governor Tom Wolf joined a bipartisan group of 17 Governors, whose states represent over 40% of the US population, in signing an Accord where they pledge to help create a cleaner more prosperous future for our children.
